Care & Styling Guide

Professional care for custom wigs, toppers & luxury hair loss solutions

Your Contrast Crown piece was created to feel beautiful, natural, and uniquely yours. Each wig and topper is professionally selected, customized, cut, blended, and styled through the lens of salon expertise in hair loss, extensions, alternative hair, and color refinement.

Unlike standard retail wigs or toppers, your crown is part of a personalized hair loss solution. This guide was created to help you protect your investment, maintain a soft and natural finish, and feel confident caring for your piece at home.

👑

A Note From Your Stylist

Human hair wigs and toppers require a different level of care than the hair growing from your scalp. Because the hair in your piece is no longer receiving natural oils from the body, it can become dry, dull, tangled, or fragile if it is over-washed, over-heated, or treated with harsh products.

Less friction. Less heat. Less buildup. More intentional care.

Daily Care & Styling

1

Before Each Wear

  • Gently detangle from ends upward using wide-tooth comb, extension brush, or soft wig brush.
  • Support base with one hand while brushing to protect knots, lace, silk, and clips.
  • Position toppers securely without tension; wigs should feel stable, never overly tight.
2
💫

Daily Wear & Brushing

  • Brush before and after each wear, especially at nape and ends.
  • Avoid repeated rubbing from collars, hoodies, scarves, seatbelts.
  • Never remove piece by pulling on hair. Open clips fully before removing a topper.
3
💧

Washing & Conditioning

  • Wash every 10-15 wears or when buildup, odor, or dullness appears.
  • Use cool to lukewarm water and sulfate-free color-safe shampoo.
  • Smooth shampoo downward; never scrub, twist, or ball up hair.
  • Condition mid-length to ends only, keeping heavy conditioner away from base.

🔥

Drying & Heat Styling

  • Air dry on wig stand whenever possible.
  • Use heat protectant every time you style.
  • Keep hot tools between 275-325°F.
  • Avoid repeated passes and never place hot tools directly on lace or cap materials.

Overwashing and excessive heat are the fastest ways to shorten the life of your crown.

Professional Tips & What To Expect

🧴

1. Product Guidelines

Best Choices: sulfate-free shampoo, hydrating conditioner, lightweight leave-in conditioner, detangling spray, heat protectant, flexible-hold finishing spray, lightweight serum on ends only.

Use With Caution: purple shampoo, dry shampoo, texture spray, heavy oils, root powders, harsh sulfates, sticky hairsprays.

📌

2. Toppers: Clip & Scalp Care

Clips should feel secure, never painful. Avoid clipping into exact same section every day if natural hair is fragile or thinning. If you feel tension, tenderness, or slipping, remove and reposition topper.

🎭

3. Wigs: Fit & Cap Care

Proper fit should feel comfortable, secure, and natural. Clean inside of cap as needed to remove oils, makeup, and buildup. Use wig grips, tape, or adhesive only if compatible and professionally recommended.

4. What's Normal

Light shedding during first few wears and washes can be normal. Ends may need extra moisture over time. Restyling after washing, travel, or storage is expected.

⚠️

5. Please Do Not DIY

Do not bleach, tone, pluck the hairline, cut bangs, thin density, alter lace, remove clips, sew into the base, or use adhesive without guidance.

When in doubt, refer back to this care guide before making changes at home.
